Message From Sri Partha Chatterjee, Minister In Charge, Department of Information Technology, Commerce and Industries, Public Enterprises & Industrial Reconstruction and Parliamentary Affairs
It gives me immense pleasure to learn that the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal is inaugurating the Employment Bank Portal on 26th July 2012. The project was conceived more than a year back. Later, on the advice of the Hon'ble Chief Minister the Information Technology Department became associated with it and the West Bengal Electronics Development Corporation (WEBEL) was asked to implement it.

The Employment Bank Portal, as conceived in our State, is a very important project for every conceivable stakeholder in the employment market. To begin its journey, this portal is bringing into its fold - apart from job seekers and employers- educational institutions and vocational training providers. Gradually, placement agencies as well as individual service seekers will be allowed to register here. However, this portal will be very different from the private job portals where ordinarily high end jobs are advertised. Employment Bank Portal of West Bengal will offer free service to all categories of jobseekers, be he/she an engineering graduate or Class VIII pass skilled worker. With our commitment to work for the poor and the disadvantageous, the Portal has been so designed as to specifically cater to the needs of scheduled caste, schedule tribe, minority, and physically challenged job seekers.

In the long run the success of any endeavour depends on the real value addition it makes for the society. The Employment Bank Portal will be counted as a successful endeavour, if it becomes popular among all external stakeholders. To my understanding, this can only happen if the internal stakeholders keep a constant vigil on its service level and regularly upgrade the technological platform on which it has been built. I request all concerned to be conscious of this.

I take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all the officials of the Labour and Information Technology Departments including WEBEL for working tirelessly together for successful launching of this Portal. The State e-Governance Mission team which gave valuable technical inputs also deserves our thanks. It is heartening to learn that a West Bengal based SME company has acted as the software vendor. We all know that locally there is no dearth of talent pool which only needs proper harnessing for our State to prosper. I extend my thanks to them also.

I conclude with abundant hope that Employment Bank Portal will soon become the gateway of employment for the youth of the state.
